“What’s in your hand? What do you have that you’ve been given? Talent, background, education, freedom, networks, opportunities, wealth, ideas, creativity? What are you doing with what you’ve been given?” -Rick Warren
Although this quote and painting really have nothing to do with each other, I found that they both have a similar meaning. First, I think the quote is pretty self explanatory.. I can relate to this quote because I feel like I’ve got all these things at my fingertips that I’m capable of accomplishing. Check out this 20 minute speech by Rick Warren that I heard the quote from here. The image above is from a set of paintings by Nate Frizzell portraying different emotions. This one is about being “shallow in every sense of the word. One definition of the word is “lacking depth of intellect, emotion, or knowledge”. Not only is the boy in the painting standing in shallow water, but he still finds a way to drown himself in it, ignoring the affect he has on his surroundings.” I can relate to this because sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in my own thoughts… Although I don’t feel like I’m never not trying to improve at certain parts of my life or what I like to do. It feels like I’m constantly searching for perfection within myself but never reaching it is the continuos struggle and motivation of this goal. Anyways, the quote reminds me what I’ve got at my hands and the painting is motivating to keep at it!
